Chateau Leoube
Château Léoube is a sanctuary of sea and vine, tucked along the sunlit shores of Provence in the heart of the Côtes de Provence appellation. Set within a protected estate of nearly 560 hectares — only 70 of which are planted to vines — Léoube is more than a vineyard; it is a holistic ecosystem where olive trees, forest, and wild herbs coexist with Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, and Rolle. Purchased in 1997 by the Bamford family, known for their organic lifestyle brand Daylesford, Léoube has grown into one of France’s leading voices for sustainable viticulture and elegant, terroir-driven rosé.
The vineyard lies just meters from the Mediterranean, its soils a mix of schist, clay, and limestone, shaped by salt-laden breezes and bright Provençal light. All farming is carried out organically, with many biodynamic principles applied in practice. Vines are worked by hand; cover crops and biodiversity are encouraged to maintain natural balance. In the cellar, the winemaking is minimalist — cold fermentations, gentle pressing, no unnecessary manipulation — all designed to preserve purity and reflect the singular coastal terroir. Ageing varies by cuvée, with stainless steel, concrete, and a careful touch of oak used where needed.
Léoube’s wines are precise, luminous, and quietly expressive. The estate is best known for its rosés, which marry texture with freshness. Rosé de Léoube is breezy and effortless — pale, saline, and floral — while Secret de Léoube offers more depth, with notes of wild strawberry, peach skin, sea spray, and a whisper of spice. The reds are structured yet restrained, and the whites show purity and herbal tension — always underpinned by a clear line of mineral clarity drawn from the soils and sea.
What defines Château Léoube is its harmony — with nature, with craft, and with its setting. This is not a domaine chasing volume or fashion, but one rooted in a philosophy of care. Every decision — from vineyard to bottle — is driven by the desire to leave a light footprint and produce wines of genuine provenance. The aesthetic is minimal, but the intention is deep.
Château Léoube is for those who seek wines of place and purity — wines shaped not only by sun and stone, but by a profound respect for land, light, and the rhythm of the Mediterranean.
