Château Saint Pierre
Château Saint-Pierre may be the smallest of the 1855 Fourth Growths in Saint-Julien, but within its modest scale lies a voice of remarkable depth and clarity. With origins tracing back to the 17th century, the estate has lived many lives—divided, reunited, and ultimately revived to its rightful place among the Médoc’s elite. Today, it stands as one of the appellation’s most focused and expressive crus, known for its purity, structure, and restrained elegance.
The 17-hectare vineyard lies on the gravel-rich plateau of Saint-Julien, a terroir renowned for its balance of power and finesse. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the plantings, supported by Merlot and Cabernet Franc, each vine tended with precision and care. Under the guidance of the Henri Martin family—who restored the estate to prominence in the 1980s—Saint-Pierre has embraced modern viticulture while holding fast to its classical core.
Yields are kept low, and harvesting is carried out by hand, parcel by parcel. In the cellar, gravity flow and temperature-controlled vats allow for gentle extraction and purity of fruit. Aging takes place in French oak barrels, 50% new, for 14 to 16 months. The winemaking philosophy is one of clarity and balance: never showy, always structured.
The Château Saint-Pierre Grand Vin is a study in Saint-Julien typicity—blackcurrant, cigar box, graphite, and wild herbs unfold with polish and precision. The palate is taut and mineral-driven, supported by ripe tannins and a quietly persistent finish. It is a wine that evolves slowly, gaining harmony and depth with time in bottle.
Despite its relative discretion, Château Saint-Pierre is a connoisseur’s wine—sought for its authenticity, consistency, and ability to express terroir with unforced grace. It does not chase trends or grandeur, but speaks clearly from its gravel soils with each passing vintage.
Each bottle is a distillation of Saint-Julien’s essence—measured, poised, and quietly magnificent.
