Henschke
Henschke is one of Australia’s most revered wine estates — a sixth-generation family winery whose name is inseparable from the history of fine wine in the Eden Valley and beyond. Since its founding in 1868, Henschke has quietly built a legacy rooted in faith, land, and time. Today, led by Stephen and Prue Henschke, with the next generation now at the helm, the estate continues to craft wines of precision, grace, and profound regional voice — none more iconic than Hill of Grace, Australia’s most legendary single-vineyard wine.
The family farms biodynamically and with deep ecological sensitivity across some of the highest-elevation vineyards in South Australia. From the Gnadenberg Church vineyard, home to century-old ungrafted Shiraz vines, to the cooler-climate Lenswood site in the Adelaide Hills, the focus is always on stewardship — enhancing soil vitality, biodiversity, and vineyard longevity. Each block is mapped and nurtured, with vine age and site individuality forming the bedrock of expression.
In the winery, the process is intuitive, restrained, and deeply respectful. Shiraz, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mataro, and Semillon are handled in small lots, with wild ferments, minimal intervention, and ageing in carefully selected French and American oak. The wines are not shaped by modernity or fashion, but by the rhythm of vintage and vineyard. Cellaring potential is built in from the vine — every release is crafted with the long arc in mind.
The wines are elegant, powerful, and quietly expressive. Hill of Grace Shiraz, from vines planted in the 1860s, is floral, dark-fruited, and mineral, with immense structure, savoury depth, and decades of longevity. Mount Edelstone, another storied single-vineyard Shiraz, offers spice, red plum, and earthy finesse. Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon is structured and composed, while Joseph Hill Gewürztraminer, Eden Valley Riesling, and Johann’s Garden GSM reflect the same detail-driven philosophy across whites and blends.
What defines Henschke is its synthesis of history and intention — a winery that walks quietly at the edge of the sacred, crafting wines that honour the land and the long view of family.
These are wines shaped not by hands alone, but by generations — layered, patient, and composed to last beyond a lifetime.
