Oraterra Wines is a Marlborough-based project shaped by soil, sustainability, and a deep focus on the quiet detail of place. The name Oraterra — meaning “earth and land” — signals the winery’s clear intent: to craft wines that reflect the unique energy of the vineyard with honesty, restraint, and precision. It is a modern expression of Marlborough, rooted in sustainability and crafted with a light hand.

Fruit is sourced from select parcels across the Wairau and Awatere Valleys, chosen for their varied microclimates and distinctive soil compositions — from stony riverbeds to wind-cooled slopes. These sites provide both texture and natural acidity, giving the wines their hallmark freshness and purity. The viticulture is sustainably certified, with a focus on biodiversity, water conservation, and low-input farming, ensuring that every vineyard block is cultivated with the long-term health of the land in mind.

In the winery, the approach is clean and minimal. Sauvignon Blanc, the flagship varietal, is cold-fermented in stainless steel, with some parcels seeing extended lees contact for mid-palate texture. Pinot Noir is destemmed and fermented in small lots, with gentle extraction and ageing in a mix of older oak barrels to preserve freshness and varietal clarity. The winemaking is focused on preserving site character and building quiet complexity — not shaping the wine, but stewarding its potential.

The wines are crisp, lifted, and thoughtfully composed. Sauvignon Blanc offers layers of lime leaf, white grapefruit, elderflower, and crushed stone — vibrant yet restrained, more mineral than tropical.
