The Second Growths, or Deuxièmes Crus, form the next tier of Bordeaux’s 1855 Classification. While just one step below the First Growths in ranking, many of these estates produce wines that rival their more famous neighbours in quality, often with greater accessibility in both price and approachability.

Most Second Growths are found in the Médoc, particularly in the communes of Saint-Julien, Pauillac, and Margaux. Notable names include Château Léoville-Las Cases, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, Château Pichon Baron, and Château Rauzan-Ségla. These wines tend to show depth, structure, and elegance, with strong potential for ageing.

The group also includes Château Cos d’Estournel in Saint-Estèphe and the standout sweet wine estate, Château de Myrat in Barsac. Across styles, Second Growths often offer a balance of pedigree and personality, making them a favourite among collectors and enthusiasts alike.
