Pomerol may be Bordeaux’s smallest major appellation, but its impact is anything but. With no formal classification system and few grand châteaux, the focus here is firmly on the wine—rich, generous, and deeply expressive.

Merlot is the star, often supported by Cabernet Franc, producing full-bodied reds with dark plum, blackberry, and mocha notes, layered with spice and velvety tannins. The region’s signature blue clay and gravel soils, especially on the Pomerol plateau, bring structure and a unique mineral tension that lifts even the ripest fruit.

Pomerol is home to some of Bordeaux’s most sought-after wines, including the legendary Pétrus. But alongside these icons are many small, family-run estates offering wines with warmth, texture, and unmistakable charm.
