The 2024 Haut-Batailley offers up aroma of cherries, kirsch and petroleum jelly, followed by a medium-bodied, chunky and tannic palate.
Bright ruby in colour. The nose leads with plump cherries and red berries, together with sandalwood and clove from wood spice. The palate is direct and linear, led by sapid red fruits and ample wood spice. The grip and backbone comes from sandy wood tannins in addition to chalky fruit tannin, leaving a pithy, fragrant finish.
Fragrant, floral, precise, with graphite and crayon character that is immediately apparant on the nose. Very much captures the appellation and estate signature, with real classicism and balance, depth through the mid palate and slim, savoury blue and black fruits. Well constructed, and no question that this can age - easy to project forward to think that in a decade this will be in full Batailley swing. 57% new oak for ageing, Casteja family estate. 2030-2044
The 2024 Batailley is a wild, exotic wine. Kirsch, menthol, blood orange and white truffle race across the palate, framed with a kiss of French oak that works well in this style. Floral notes resonant on the juicy finish. This approachable, open-knit Pauillac is a delight.
