The 2024 Croix Cardinale comes from a south-facing vineyard and for the first time, this sophomore vintage contains 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. It aged in 35% new oak, 35% in one-year-old oak, 10% in demi-maids and 5% in amphorae. It has an attractive bouquet with blackberry, sea spray and light violet petal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fine tannins and a touch of black pepper toward the finish. This has a little more sapidity and amplitude than the Fleur Cardinale. It is very fine.
The 2024 Croix Cardinale benefits from its southern exposure and the greater presence of Cabernets in the blend vis-à-vis Fleur Cardinale, all of which yield a wine with notable mid-palate presence and creaminess. Dark-toned fruit, leather, incense, lavender, licorice and sage all build nicely in the glass. This is an impressive showing.
